We all want to believe

1up.com has an article about the fake pre-E3 Nintendo On video created by a 23 year old guy. I think it is interesting to reflect on players' expectations when facing a new line of consoles that is about to be launched. The fake video obviously draws from the VR, Holodeck-style mythology and does a good work at it. Fake corporate videos have been the new demo scene for quite a while. If a couple of guys on their basement can fool a couple of millions, imagine what you could do with professionals. I lost my innocence when watching Jurassic Park. I argued at the time that if the dinosaur sequences would have been distributed as a National Geographic documentary, I would have been convinced of the existence of prehistoric creatures. Well, I did watch Jurassic Park a while ago and I could tell the CGI behind it - but that's only after a decade of training our eyes on CGI wonders. After all, we all want to believe, right?

Façade ships!

Andrew Stern and Michael Mateas are proud to anounce the arrival of their baby. It weighs 800 megs and has a fancy French name. Congratulations! Façade is here for all of us to try it out! After years of production, finally we can all have access to it... and for free (free as in free beer). Michael and Andrew are quite special guys: they put their money where their mouth is (no, I don't mean they use their mouths as a purse.) Here's the press release and here's the link to download it (Bittorrent). Go and try the most ambitious piece of entertainment software out there. Once again, congrats to Michael and Andrew.

Studying GDC Europe

If you are a student member of the IGDA (it's really not that expensive and well worth it) you can apply for one of the 10 scholarships to attend to GDC Europe.
